Academic Book Design

Griffith University assigned me a task to design a book ‘Thoughts on Typography and Layout’. The book will be sent to design students to read and learn about the theory of Typography and layout. The design needs to focus on typeface and layout design to guide students to read and understand the content of the book due its complex concept.

The proper size of the book for design students to collect it as a academic book for learning purpose. Interesting typeface and layout design guide students understand the theories of the articles and how they are helpful for their typography and layout design. Once the students read the book, they can understand the theories and use them for their learning.

I experimented with different book sizes and chose the best one for the book. I read all the articles and the content is quite complex and hard to understand. So I highlighted the main words and sentences with typeface design and interesting layouts. I designed the different chapters with different typefaces, graphics, layouts and colors related to their content. In the end, I designed a special pattern similar to a grid with the consistent color palette of the book for the cover.
